I have spent more than 21 years in African financial services and 13 of them leading risk and compliance functions, including nine years in designated MLRO appointments at country, regional and group level across eight African markets.

My work spans banking, cross-border payments and remittances, digital lending, insurance and capital markets. It covers enterprise risk management, AML/CFT/CPF, sanctions, fraud, regulatory compliance and governance.

I write The African Risk Lens to do one thing well: take a real event, read the primary evidence, and explain what it reveals about how systems fail, adapt and are governed, and what African financial-services leaders should decide differently as a result.

One essay every fortnight

Each essay takes one real event apart: what happened, how the system behaved, and the decision it puts in front of financial-services leaders.
